Frequently Asked Questions
How old were you when you got into computers?
I was eight. My elementary school had a Commodore PET, and that thing launched my interest into computers and electronics.
What was your first computer?
I had wanted a Commodore VIC-20 as my cousin had one, but I received an Atari 400 instead. The keyboard was awful, but the sound and graphics were better.
I would eventually get an Atari 800XL, then the 1050 disk drive. All my friends by now had a Commodore 64, so I got one too, and traded all of my Atari gear towards the 1541 disk drive.
How many computers do you own?
As the saying goes in this hobby, “a divorceable amount”. I am rather frugal on my spending, so I will wait years sometimes for a great deal. Some are donations too.
Did you ever BBS?
Yes, at first with my C64 at 300 baud on a 1650 modem that was gifted to me. Wow, those were the days.
I would eventually become a sysop of my own BBS. The first was “The Matrix” as in the Autobot matrix of leadership, and my handle was Rodimus Prime. Of course, that was a popular name and was everywhere, so I then made the BBS “Milliways” and my new handle was “Space Centurion”.
